I use psychophysics and computation to understand perception. I was trained as a vision scientist and spent a long period working in mid-level vision, but have since transitioned into hearing research.
I am generally interested in mid and high level auditory processes and the way they interface with cognition. Part of my research is concerned with music perception; I view music as a useful point of entry to many interesting phenomena in audition. Other projects focus on more basic problems in hearing, including auditory scene analysis and source separation. I am particularly interested in trying to grapple with the richness and complexity of natural sounds.
