PSY 4032: Psychology of Music (3 credits)
This course explores various aspects of music perception, including tonality, harmony, consonance and dissonance. We study the cognitive neuroscience of music by looking at research using brain imaging and research using patients with brain damage. We also consider developmental (babies) and comparative (animals) studies to help determine the extent to which music is innate and/or unique to humans. The final topic explores the relationship between music and emotion.

PSY 8041: Proseminar in Perception (3 credits, co-taught with Dan Kersten)
This course provides a survey of research into visual and auditory perception, with an emphasis on current work performed in labs at the University of Minnesota. The course combines background lectures with student-led theme discussions, focused on classic and current papers in the research literature.
